I'll say this, Urban Meyer works fast. On Saturday, December 26th, he announced that because of chest pains and the fact that he hadn't really seen his wife or 3 daughters over the past 5 years, he would be stepping down as Gators coach. Over Christmas, he and his family decided that him being away from football might allow them to achieve the closeness that many non-football families achieve. His 18 year old daughter declared "I get my daddy back!" Well, between Christmas and the next day, Meyer must have made amazing strides putting his family back in order because he was ready to coach again.... This guy is leaving a ton of money on the table as Florida's coach; he should have a Dr. Phil type show on how to pull a families closer together in a hurry.
Anyway, Meyer's situation makes an already complex Sugar Bowl even harder to bet. Who knows how much energy Meyer has put into coaching considering his flip flopping? One of the most productive college QBs of all time, Tim Tebow will be playing his last game, and Cincinnati's coach, Brian Kelly amazingly left for the greener pastures of Notre Dame. (You couldn't wait 2 weeks to take the job Brian?). This year, Florida was 6-6-1 against the spread. Cincinnati was only 5-6 against the spread, and lost their last 4 games.
This game, unlike any other bowl game is a true wildcard. How will Cincinnati respond to an interim coach in their bid for their first ever undefeated season? How organized is Meyer's game plan considering the sideshow? With a 12.5 line favoring Florida, is this game a huge risk for a backdoor cover if Tebow is pulled early to a raucous ovation?
